FAQs

  1. What are the Camp Dates and Times?
June 23rd through June 27th. Monday through Thursday the hours are: 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Friday the camp hours will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  2. I have a child who needs daycare. Do you have any daycare available?
See the FAQs : TAGS page.
  3. I have a daughter who would like to help. Is there something she can do?
See the TAGs and Ventures FAQs pages. If she is under 14, but over 11 she can be a Jr. Helper. See below:
  4. My child would like to be a Jr. Helper. What are the requirements?
Jr. Helpers must be a minimum of 11 years old, or going into 6th grade. They are required to be a boy scout (if they're a boy). Girls may be Jr. Helpers if they are going into 6th grade but still too young to be Ventures (under 14 yrs. old). Jr. Helpers may request a specific area to work, but must be flexible. Most Jr. Helpers want to work Archery/BB's or Swimming. Clearly, there aren't enough positions to accomodate all of those requests. All Jr. Helpers are required to spend 1/2 of one day providing water to units and campers.
  5. May I pick up my child early?
You're welcome to pick up your child. But be mindful that this year the last activity will end at 3:30. We will have our closing/round-up BEFORE the last activity begins. So if you pick up your child early he will miss the last craft or activity. Also ... please remember that you MUST sign your child in AND out. Failure to sign a child out will result in the entire camp executing a Missing Child Alert, including calling the local sheriff's department as we will not have any record of your child being picked up. This is mandatory day camp procedures.
  6. My child doesn't swim. Is there an accomodation for him?
Unless medically unable to get wet, all swimmers will be giving a swimming test, and placed in one of three categories. Non-swimmers, beginning swimmers and swimmers. This test is given on Monday. Non-swimmers are welcome to use life vests, and can stay in the shallow end of the pool. If this child is uncomfortable even with entering the pool they are welcome to be "junior helpers" at the pool during their unit's designated swim time.
  7. I do not want my child in the swimming area at all. What can I do?
Unfortunately we have no alternate activity for your child. All children must stay with the units assigned. If you do not want your child in the swimming area you will need to stay with your child near the pool until the activity has completed, at which time your child must be reunited with his unit.
  8. My child has summer school in the mornings. Can I bring him late each day?
Yes. Children are welcome to come late. We have an agenda in which we know at any time during the day where your child's unit will be. You must come to the check-in table upon arriving, sign your child in and you will be told where your child should go. This is and has been an ongoing problem for cubs at camp. There simply is no perfect time during any week in the summer to dedicate to camp. Parents really have had to make the hard choice whether to bring the kids to camp or just enroll them in summer school. Trying to do both is really tough. The child tends to feel deprived when they arrive late as they see the crafts other cubs have completed, or hear the exciting experiences they missed. But again, they're welcomed to do so if they choose.
  9. My child will only be attending 1/2 day of cub camp. Can I get a discount?
Unfortunately, no. We have budgeted a full day for each camper. In doing so, we have provided enough space, time, supplies, activities, etc. whether your child is at camp or not. There is no way that we can break your child's portion of the day out of the supplies and activities list.
  10. My child is allergic to bee stings.
If your child has prescription drugs such as an epi-pen your child may administer the drug as specified by the prescription and dosage. If your child needs assistance we can help, but your child MUST be trained and take primary control of his drugs.
  11. My child takes prescription medication. Will you give him the drugs?
Unless the prescription medication is for immediate needs, such as an epi-pen, insulin, or inhaler, prescription medications are to be checked in to the nurse's station upon arrival. Please make certain that your child's name AND dose to be given are specified on the prescription label. If either of these items are missing from the label the prescription drug will not be given. We are limited to assisting your child in taking their medication only as prescribed.
  12. My child has a mental/physical disability. Can he still attend camp?
Absolutely! Every child is welcome at camp. Please make sure his information is clearly listed on the form so we may have adequate staff and activities to accomodate him.
  13. I'm interested in helping. What can I do?
There are three levels of assisting with day camp. You can volunteer to be a unit leader for less than 5 days, but a minimum of one full day. You can volunteer to be a unit leader for all 5 days. Or you can volunteer to be a member of our staff or assist our staff at an activity station. For more volunteer information see the FAQs : Volunteer page.
  14. I want to help plan the camp and be responsible for a station. What do I do?
There is a staff roster page in this website which shows all of the current stations that are available. Some have already been assigned, and some we still have needs for. If you don't see anything that stirs your interest don't worry! We'll find something for you. But this roster is a starting point for you to consider. Also know, this roster is an evolving roster. If we can't find someone for a station we may eliminate the station and replace it with another station. Or, as ideas come up we may change the order of stations.
