What is involved in volunteering?
Volunteers can be involved at many different levels. In the planning stages of camp we'd love any help we can get - from one to four hour tasks. During camp we need volunteers to commit to a minimum of one full day.
-
Is there a discount if I volunteer?
If you work ALL 5 DAYS at camp, you will receive a $135 refund for your scout's registration fees.
-
Can I work a few days, and then have my husband work the rest and still qualify for the volunteer refund?
No. Unfortunately this defeats the purpose. We offer this refund to entice parents to stay at camp the entire 5 days. When our units have the same leaders every day the scouts have a much better time at camp. The leaders know the routines, the scouts know the leaders, and the camp runs smoothly. But when we switch leaders up every day there's a learning curve that the scouts have to endure as the new unit leaders find their way. To make this the most enjoyable experience possible for the campers, we try to entice parents to stay all week by offering this refund.
-
I have a child who is not a cub can he/she stay with me while I volunteer?
Unfortunately, no. Our primary concern at camp is for the safety of the cub scouts. If you have a child with you, your focus will naturally shift from cub scouts first, to your child's well being first. This is why we've created the TAGs program for our volunteers. We need your undivided attention on the cub scouts.
-
Can I split shift with my spouse?
No. We've found that mid-day disruptions in unit leaders is far too costly and distracts the cubs from their primary purose - to have fun! If there's no other way for you to help, perhaps there's another position you could take, rather than unit leader. However, remember that your pack is responsible for providing a minimum of 1 unit leader for every 6 scouts sent to camp.
-
Can I volunteer for a specific area?
You can request working in a specific area, but until our required ratio of 1 unit leader for every 6 scouts is met we cannot guarantee other assignments. However, if this ratio is met for your pack we will make every attempt to place you where you requested.
-
What do volunteers do?
If you volunteer to work during day camp you most likely will be a Unit Leader. You will follow a plan, assisting your 6 assigned scouts with each craft station as directed by the station leader, leading den times with your scouts as directed in your Unit Folder, directing snack times and lunch times, and participating in camp projects such as demonstrating the 12 core values, preparing and practicing skits, unit yells and songs.

Is there training required?
Yes.You need to have the Youth Protection Training as well as the camp specific Volunteer Training. The Youth Protection Training can be found online at
Youth Protection Training. It's a short training - allow approximately 15 minutes and when completed it will give you a certificate you can print. Please print this certificate and have it ready if you're asked to present it. There's also volunteer training that will be offered the month before camp. Please watch this website for the exact date and time of the training. As a volunteer you are expected to attend. This training will cover the questions you will need to have answers to as you run your cubs through the camp. This is a MUST attend. Please, make the time.
- If I've had the training in the past, am I still required to retake it?
The Youth Protection Training must be renewed every two years. However, the volunteer training is mandatory every year as procedures may change. You must be aware of these changes before camp.
